Aifos Agency will be attending the annual Miami Heritage Month kick off at KROMA Art Gallery Studios on Dec 1, 2015. In celebration of Miami Heritage Month, there will be an exclusive preview of some of the Art of Black Miami exhibits including KROMA’s 12:12. 12 Artists, 12 Installations.
12×12: 12 Artists. 12 Installations will attempt to integrate traditional forms of art making, installation, performance, video with elements of Reality TV. Twelve artists will be selected and challenged to create 72 12” x 12” pieces that must be installed in a designated 6’ x 6’ space by opening night. The thematic prompt for the show is “Coconut Grove (The oldest modern continuously-inhabited neighborhood in Miami),” but the artists can interpret it however they wish. Each artist must post 2 “confessionals” a week, documenting their progress on designated social networks with the appropriate and required hashtags.
Confessionals can be in the form of status updates, sketches, or photos, but there must be at least one video post per week. This will bring participants into situations and environments that they would otherwise never be a part of. The use of confessionals are two significant tropes of Reality TV. These elements will be amalgamated into the art space and process with the intention of gaining a deeper understanding of the “Reality” phenomena and its impact on popular culture.
KROMA is a collective art gallery on Grand Avenue in the heart of Coconut Grove, consisting of 19 creative studios and two communal exhibition spaces. The studios will house artists and artisans looking to showcase their work in a growing community with a rich history. The gallery spaces will be used to exhibit the work of a resident artist on a rotating basis and serve as a community space to feature the work of visiting artists and exhibits promoting the history of Coconut Grove. The mission is to serve as an affordable, contemporary space for artists, whose creative output will connect the spirits of Coconut Grove’s rich artistic past, present and future. The artists will enrich the lives of those in the community through art workshops and classes.
